Local body polls with party symbol to stop hide and seek game

Information Minister and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haq Inu said holding of local government elections on party basis would stop hide and seek game with the law and end political hypocrisy.
“Earlier, the political parties used to extended support to candidates informally in local government polls. Holding polls on party basis will end hide and seek and hypocrisy,” he said this on Friday while speaking as the chief guest at a meeting of JSD at Bangabandhu Avenue party office in the city.
Inu said political parties would not remain indifferent to grassroots workers because of holding local polls with party symbols.
He said all elections to union councils, municipalities, upazilas, hill district councils and city corporations were held under party governments in the past.
“The next local government polls are going to be held as per rules on completion of their tenures. It is not aimed at suppressing any movement or avoiding national polls,” he said, adding that the national election will be held in 2019 and none would be able to stop that.
Presided over by JSD Dhaka city unit convener Mir Hossain Akhtar, the meeting was also addressed by JSD General Secretary Sharif Nurul Ambia and other leaders Nurul Akhtar, Obaidur Rahman Chunnu, Karim Sikder, Afroza Haq Rina, Anowarul Islam Babu, Shafiuddin Mollah and Shahidul Islam.
