The loan amount for the construction of the new cinema halls announced by the government has been from Tk5 crore to Tk10 crore.
Earlier this year, a refinancing fund of Tk1,000 crore was announced for the construction of new cinema halls and renovation and modernisation of old cinema halls. The central bank recently issued another new circular in this regard for the cinema hall businesses.
A Bangladesh Bank official, seeking anonymity, told that “On February 14 this year, the central bank issued a circular on setting up a refinancing fund of Tk1,000 crore for cinema halls. Earlier, the highest loan amount was Tk5 crore. Now, it’s up to Tk10 crore.”
“But the interest rate of this loan will be the same as earlier, 5% for the divisional city and 4.5% for the area outside it,” they added. “The commercial banks will mainly provide this loan, in return for which they will be able to take refinancing from Bangladesh Bank. And if the loan is not repaid on time, Bangladesh Bank will deduct the money from the accounts of the banks. It means the banks have to provide the loan with its own judgment,” the official further said.
