BNP-led blockade, hartal: Loading, unloading in Ctg Port decreases to maximum extent

Though the loading, unloading of the consignments in Chittagong Port is normal but the delivery of imported consignment declined at one fourth times than before the period of BNP-led blockade, hartal for the more than one month.
The reliable port officials sources on anonymity said the drivers and helpers of transport trucks, covered vans remained with panic of petrol bomb blast on Chittagong-Dhaka Highways , as such the volume of delivery of consignments from seaport lessened to maximum extents recently.
 Fearing the attack by petrol bombs, cocktails on running transport trucks and torching during blockade, hartal period, the consignees are not taking delivery of the imported goods from port shed, sources said.
While contacted President of Inter-district Trucks & Covered Van Owners Samity Munir Ahmed told this correspondent that 50% transports are running during shutdown period of oppositions taking risk but the remaining 50% transports ramained stranded in the terminal . He said the owners o f these 50% transports did not allow their drivers to run the transports during blockade period which severely affected the delivery of the consignments from port .
 He further said though the port authority is ready to deliver consignments but the non-available of transport trucks, the importers barred from taking delivery of consignments. Port sources said during last 24 hours , about 390 containers discharged at inner berth of the port of which 334 containers delivered .
A eyewitness sources said from 6 am to 8 am yesterday only three covered vans entered in port through No.4 gate but no one came out from this gate during the same period. A truck driver of port area told that violence are being occurred on Dhaka-Chittagong highway , as a result transport workers are being injured . And hence , the driver, helpers of transports are not willing to run their transport business taking life risk.
