The ghat workers in 16 river ghats (rifver berth) of Karnaphuli river channel (port channel of Ctg Port) refrain from their loading , unloading works demanding 9- point demands including increase of wages from Thursday .
While contacted Joint Convenor of Ghat Godown Sramik Sangram Union Abul Hossain told the New Nation that they enforced similar strike in last year on same reasons but following the assurances of Chittagong Chamber leaders for fulfilling their demands from January last , these ghat workers withdraw their strikes.
Hetold that no wage hike as yet fulfilled despite passing of 7 months. Mentionable that the imported cargos are handled at the river ghats for storing in ghat warehourse by the ghat labours after unloading from mother vessels from outer berth of port through lighter vessels.
Following the strike of these workers at river berths, lighter vessels at outer berth remain stranded for want of cargos which hampering the unloading of cargos from mother vessels in outer berth.
The ghat workers earlier in November last year enforced strike demanding their wage hike etc but their demands yet to be mitigated, sources said.
