“PDB generated highest ever 6,884MW of power electricity on Tuesday,” said Abduhu Ruhullah, Chairman of Power Development Board on Wednesday. But he cautioned that load shedding might hit the consumers in the coming days if Petrobangla failed to increase gas supply to the power plants.Gas was diverted from six fertiliser factories for producing more electricity to meet the growing demand for irrigation, T-20 World Cup Cricket and the dry season, sources close to PDB said. The chairman said that the PDB would be able to generate 8,000MW of electricity subject to availability of gas. Last week, PDB received about 750mmcfd of gas for power generation. It is about 850mmcfd. Though the supply of gas has improved, we could operate one unit only at Raozan, he further said. But he cautioned that load shedding might hit the consumers in the coming days if Petrobangla failed to increase gas supply to the power plants.PDB runs their oil-fired costly power plants to continue power generation by utilizing their full capacity due to shortage of gas supply. The PDB produces over 2000MW of electricity from oil-fired power plants. The gas-fired electricity generation rose to around 4000MW on Monday, PDB officials said. PDB is hopeful to get around 1000mmcfd of gas as the fertiliser factories are shut now. Some parts of Dhaka, Chittagong and other cities and villages are experiencing three to four hours load shedding. But the PDB officials do not agree. There may be some fault with distribution.Earlier, the officials of Prime Minister’s Office, Power Division, distribution companies and PDB met several times for discussion on distribution. But there is result as yet.
