Councilors Abdus Sabur Liton, Gias Uddin and Afroza Zahur have been elected panel mayors of Chattogram City Corporation. The panel mayoral election was held yesterday at the auditorium of KB Abdus Sattar audtirium.
Mayor Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury announced the results. The election was chaired by Nazrul Islam, acting secretary and chief revenue officer of CCC.. He was assisted by Muhammad Abul Hashem, private secretary. The panel mayoral election was held yesterday afternoon before the second general meeting of the current board of CCC. Six of the general councilors and five of the reserved female councilors contested.
They are- 20 Dewan Bazar Ward Councilor Chowdhury Hasan Mahmud Hasni (13 votes received), 10 North Kattli Ward Councilor Dr. Nisar Uddin Ahmed Monju (10 votes received), Bagmaniram Ward Councilor No. 15 Mohammad Gias Uddin (28 votes received), Andarkilla Ward Councilor Jahar Lal Hazari (11 votes received), East Bakalia Ward Councilor Md. Harun Ur Rashid (17 votes) and Rampur Ward Councilor Abdus Sabur Liton (29 votes).
The reserved ward councilors are Zobaira Nargis Khan (3 votes), Neelu Nag (13 votes), Afroza Kalam (28 votes), Lutfunnesa Dobhas Baby (3 votes) and Ferdous Begum Munni (7 votes. Voting started at 11:20 am in three booths in the auditorium. Councilors exercise their voting right in a festive atmosphere. Each voted for two general ward councilors and one reserved ward councilor. Voting ends at 11:40 p.m.
