Two teenage girls were killed by thunderbolt at Ghona village under Satkhira Sadar upazila on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Halima Khatun, 14, a student of class VIII and Fatema Khatun, 13, a student of class VI of Ghona United Multipurpose Secondary School in Sadar upazila.
Emdadul Hoque Sheikh, officer-in-charge of Satkhira Sadar Thana, said both the girls were suddenly killed by lightning while they were returning home from a coaching center around 5pm.
Halima and Fatema received serious burn injuries by lightning amid inclement weather in the area, he said.
They were rushed to Satkhira Sadar Upazila Health Complex in critical condition where on duty doctors declared them dead, the OC added.
