Two children were killed and three others injured when thunderbolts struck them in different areas under Rajastali upazila of the district on Thursday evening.
The deceased were identified as Angh Thuima Marma, 17, and Mong Sing Marma, 7, of Ogaripara area under Gainda union in the upazila.
Police of Rajastali Thana said the thunderbolt struck Angh Thui Marma and Mong Sing Marma in the area at about 6 pm when they were taking bath in rainwater in front of their house. Both of them died on the spot.
In another incident, thunderbolt struck Nurul Alam, 10,
Shaidul Islam, 15, and Mong Chaching Marma, 10, at Hazipara under Islampur union in Razasthali upazila at about 5.30 pm when they were playing football on a ground, leaving them injured on the spot.
The wounded were admitted to Rajastali Upazilla Health Complex, hospital sources said.
Officer-in-Charge of Rajastali Police Station Ahid Ullah Sarkar confirmed both the incidents.
Two held with liquor: Police arrested two youths with 200 liters of country made liquor from Banorupa Bazaar of the town on Friday night.
Police said the arrestees are Nioti Rajjan Chakma, 19, and Riten Chakma, 30.
Acting on a tip off, a team of the police raided an unauthorized bar in the area and arrested the two. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the owner of the bar Surja Chakma fled the scene.
