At least six people were killed after being struck by lightning at Islampur upazila in Jamalpur this afternoon.
Deceased were identified as, Kala Mia, son of Ahsan Ali of West Gamaria village of Parthoshi UP of the upazila, Enamul Haque, son of Jabbar Khan, Shah Jamal, son of Baile Mia of the same village, Jabed Ali, son of Quddus of Batikimary Village of Palbandha UP, Mahijal, son of Akher Ali of Chandanpur village of Gaibandha UP and Billal Hossain, son of Quddus Mollah of Projapati Char.
Islampur Hospital doctor Israt Jahan Chowdhury confirmed this information.
She said the storm started around 4:30 pm. At that time, six people were killed by lightning while working in the field.
Meanwhile, the power supply to Jamalpur district town and Upazila Sadar has been cut off since the storm. The storm also uprooted many trees.
