A farmer was killed in a lightning strike at Moujimerdwip area under No. 2 ward Chakmarkul Union in Ramu Upazila of the district recently.
The deceased was identified as Habib Ahmed, 50, son of late Ashrafuzzaman of Ali Hossen Sikderpara area of the union.
Zila Parishad Member Nurul Haque said the deceased went to work in a vegetable field beside Bankkhali River at the said area when lightning struck him, leaving him dead on the spot. As he was not returning till 4pm, his daughter went to the field and found Habib dead.
