UNB, Dhaka: Five people, including two siblings, were killed and six others injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Dhobaura, Haluaghat and Fulpur upazilas of the district on Thursday. Two siblings– Delwar Hossain, 12, a class III student of Gujirkandi Government Primary School and son of Atar Khan of Kandapara village in Dhobaura upazila and his sister Rahima Khatun, 9 died on the spot as a thunderbolt hit them while they were reading lessons in a balcony of their house in the village in the morning, local people said. Three people were also injured in the same incident, officer-in-charge of Dhobaura Police Station Abdul Haque said. They were first taken to Dhobaura Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, the OC added. In another incident, a thunderbolt hit five people in different villages of Haluaghat upazila in the morning leaving two people — Rubel Karim, 32, of Parura village, and Jamsed Ali, 50, of Baniakanda village — dead on the spot and three others – Iysen, 11, Nurzahan, 45, and Iymona, 47, injured. On the other hand, farmer Kafil Uddin, 55, was killed as a lightning struck him at Bhita village in Fulpur upazila, officer-in-charge of Fulpur Police Station Majharul Haque said.
