Lightning kills 10 in several districts

At least nine people were killed when lightning struck them in several areas of the country on Saturday.
In Habiganj, at least three persons died and three others got injured in two separate lightning strikes.
The deceased were identified as Marfat Ali, 17, son of Malik Mia, and Robin Mia, 17, son of Abed Ali, inhabitants of Rania village in Ajmiriganj upazila, and Askir Mia, 55, from Chandipur village in Shayestaganj upazila.
Local sources said that a thunderstorm struck five young men in Rania village while they were fishing in the River Kushiyara, leaving them injured.
They were rushed to Ajmiriganj Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared Marfat and Malik dead.
Ajmiriganj UNO Naima Khandaker confirmed the matter and said that the deceased’s family would get compensation from the government.
Meanwhile, one Askir Mia was killed by lightning when he was fishing in the river.
In Moulvibazar, two people were struck by lightning and breathed their last in Barlekha and Kamalganj upazila.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Matin, 55, and Rubel Ahmed.
Local’s sources said that victim Abdul Matin went to a vegetable field near his house in Gallasangan village of Barolekha upazila.
Rubel was struck when he was fishing in a canal at Kazirband area in the same upazila.
Md Yasinul Haque, Officer-in-Charge of Barolekha police station said.
In Kishoreganj, at least two persons were killed in a thunderbolt struck in Kuliyarchar Bhairob upazila of the district on Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Kamrul Khandokar, 14, son of one Harun Khandakar of Kuliyarchar upazila, and Selim Miah, 28, son of one Ahsanullah of Bhairob upazila.
Shahin Miah, Officer-in-Charge of Bhairob Police Station confirmed the news to the media.
In Manikganj, a school teacher was killed in lightning strike at Sadar upazila in Manikganj district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Md Jahangir Alam, an Assistant Teacher of Poura Model Government Primary School. He was the son of one Md Jasim Uddin, a resident of Malancha in the upazila.
Headmistress of the school Parveen Aktar said that a thunderbolt struck Jahangir when he was processing paddy on his house premises at noon, leaving him critically injured.
He was taken to Manikganj District Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. In Sunamganj, a fisherman named Monju Miah, 22, was killed by a lightning strike when he was fishing in the river.
In Bhola, a farmer named Abdul Mamek,60, was killed and two others were injured in a lightning strike in Sadar upazila of the district on Saturday.
