LGRD and Co-operatives Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday stressed the importance of a major role to be played by his ministry to implement Vision-2021 and Vision-2041.
“LGRD ministry is one of the biggest stakeholders of development activities in Bangladesh. Majority of development activities to brighten the future of the poor are carried out through rural development and co-operatives and local government divisions of the ministry. So it has to carry out its responsibilities by remaining in the driver’s seat,” Mosharraf said.
The minister came up with the observations while exchanging Eid greetings with the officials and staffs of the two divisions of the ministry at the conference room of local government division.
State Minister for LGRD and Co-operatives Md Mashiur Rahman Ranga, secretary in-charge Mafruha Sultana, additional secretary Sourendra Nath Chakrabarty of local government division, other senior officials of the ministry were, among others, present on the occasion.
“The first budget of independent Bangladesh was only Taka 700 crore. But after only 46 years, this year we proposed a budget of more than Taka 4,00,000 crore. Achieving such unprecedented growth is possible only in Bangladesh and that too was possible only because of the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he added. The minister said Bangladesh is the eighth biggest country in the world in terms of population and hoped that in near future it will be one of the top ten financially developed countries as well.
