In order to attain sustainable development, Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Sylhet has been implementing 17 projects in 13 Upazilas of the Sylhet district at a cost of Tk 89 crore. During the financial year 2016-17, housing accommodation for insolvent Freedom Fighters, bridge and culvert construction, development of rural roads, construction of school buildings, union complex building and their maintenance featured in these development projects are included.
Mahmudul Hasan acting Chief Engineer of Sylhet LGED said, These projects will come under cent percent implemented within 2017. Of the projects covers Sylhet Sadar, South Surma, Companigonj, Golapgonj, Kanaighat, Gowainghat, Bishwanath, Beanibazar, Fenchugonj, Zaintiapur, Zakigonj, Balagonj and Osmaninagar.
According to LGED source, “Under the project Bir Nibash-a residence for valiant Freedom Fighters, including 70 residential houses have been proposed but of them, 62 have been completed by the department, so far. Of them, six including 3 each to Sylhet Sadar and Fenchugonj UZs, two each of Balagonj and Bishwanath Upazilas, one in South Surma Upazila, nine in frontier Companigonj Upazila, eight in Zaintiapur Upazila and largest number of eleven in Gowainghat Upazila, four in Kanaighat Upazila, five at Zakigonj and Gulapgonj each and the second largest 9 in Beanibazar Upazila in the district, been completed.
Meanwhile, 28 residences have been handed over to the insolvent and landless freedom fighters. The cent percent work of residences in Sylhet Sadar, Balagonj, Bishwanath, South Surma, Gowainghat and Kanaighat have been completed under the projects and supervision of LGED in Sylhet. The Bir Nibash (housing for Freedom fighters or Liberation War heroes) in the remaining upazilas have been completed almost 70 percent works. The LGED Assistant Engineer hopes that these houses will be finished in FY 2016-17. Sylhet Sadar Upazila Engineer of LGED Saiful Azam told Daily Industry that development projects worth Tk 21.50 crore are in progress.
Golapgonj UZ LGED Engineer Habibur Rahman said that Tk 11.86 crore development schemes have materialized in Golapgonj Upazila in the district.
South Surma Upazila Engineer Durgesh Ranjan Dutta told that development schemes worth Tk 924,50,376 have been materialized in South Surma Upazila. Of them under SDRIIP Porject, Jalalpur Anilgonj Bazar to Maglabazar 1 Kilometre road, Botertal-Char Mohammedpur to Jalalpur G.C Anilgonj to Moglabazar Highway, having length of one kilometre worth Tk 89.39 crore, Moglabazar-Anilgonj Road of schemes worth Tk 30.39 lakh and schemes of worth Tk 36.39 lakh for Roykhail-Jalalpur 976 metres college road have been going to be constructed, renovated and implemented soon, he added.
Dutta said under IRIDP Project of Tk 13.80 lakh as expenditure, Daudpur Purbapara 845 metres road, with an expenditure of Tk 11.27 lakh for Shibbari to Chokerbazar 1 kilometre road, for the cost of Tk 12.05 lakh, 761 metre Kuchai-Paschimbhag road of worth Tk 18.73 lakh, 761 metres road from Kuchai to Paschimbagh residential area and up to Paschimbag Govt. Primary School road of Tk 18.73 lakh Shilam-Shunampur Ahmedpur road (1.5 Kilometre long) have been completed under LGED supervision. RSD Hilaigonj-Ashugonj Bazar road (2 Kilometres long) project worth Tk 23.59 lakh have been in full swing.
Moreover, Road construction of Tetli-Chowmuhani-Khidirpur (1579 metres long) is going to be started very soon claimed South Surma UZ Engineer Durgesh Ranjon Dutta. He added that under RTIP-2 project worth Tk 1.685 crore Jalalpur GC Bazar to Moglabazar RSD road under rehabilitation schemes 959 metres road is now at the end of construction. He said that for the maintenance of road, renovation process has been taken up.
RHD Rustampur-Jalalpur road of 6 kilometres length has been under construction at 4 points with the cost of Tk 43.254 lakh is in full swing. With the cost of other Tk 43.16 lakh Lalabazar GC Bibidail-Jalalpur Bazar (25 kilometres) road maintenance project at 3 points is under way and eight kilometres Lalabazar GC Khalermukh RHD Kolabagan Bazar Road construction, all are in full swing at three points with the cost of Tk 40.70 lakh.
He said that with the expenditure of Tk 63.40 lakh Moglabazar Jusna Habib Govt Primary School building construction work is in full swing and with a cost of Tk 52.23 lakh Kamalbazar Monowura Goni Primary School Building construction is in its completion stage.
The construction work of Kamalbazar Union Parishad Building with a cost of Tk 47.10 lakh is under way and expected to be completed within FY 2016-2017. The Bir Nibas Freedom fighter Md. Jamir Ali’s residence with the cost of Tk 9.20 lakh has been constructed. Some of the projects have been started later but Engineer Dutta hoped they will be completed at the end of FY 2016-2017.
Sylhet LGED Chief Engineer-in-charge Mahmudul Hasan said that after implementation of the project at the cost of Tk 89 crore, the lifestyle of the people of district will be changed at an standard level of new height.
