Legends of Rupganj became runners-up of the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) defeating Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited by eight wickets in their last Super League match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mitpur on Thursday.
Legends of Rupganj collected 22 points from 15 matches, while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited grabbed 24 points from as many outings. Earlier, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited clinched the title of the DPL.
Chasing Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited’s total of 116 in 34.4 overs, Legends of Rupganj sailed home making 120 for the loss of two wickets when they had 149 balls to spare.
Imrul Kayes of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited played a captain’s knock of 50. His 75-ball innings was belted with six fours and a sixer.
Second-down Mushfiqur Rahim scored 25 from 48 deliveries featuring two sixes and a four.
Pacer Al-Amin Hossain of Legends of Rupganj played the key role in demolishing Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited’s innings. Al-Amin Hossain captured six wickets in the space of 31 runs. Al-Amin Hossain was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Chirag Jani bagged two wickets at the cost of 26 runs, while Mashrafe Bin Mortaza picked up one wicket for 21 runs.
Legends of Rupganj had a modest start as openers Irfan Sukkur and Rakibul Hasan put on together 30 runs in the opening stand before Irfan Sukkur (14) was trapped leg before wicket by Parvez Rasool.
Opener Raqibul Hasan and one-down Sabbir Rahman added 50 runs for the second wicket partnership before Sabbir Rahman was trapped leg before wicket by Parvez Rasool when Legends of Rupganj’s score was 80 for the loss of two wickets.
After Sabbir Rahman’s dismissal, Raqibul Hasan and Naeem Islam guided their team to reach the winning spot scoring together 40 runs for the unbroken third wicket stand.
Raqibul Hasan remained unbeaten with 40 runs. His 79-ball innings was decorated with four fours.
Sabbir Rahman made 36 from 33 balls including four fours and two sixes.
Naeem Islam remained unbeaten with 23 runs. He hit four fours in his 14-ball innings.
Parvez Rasool of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited bagged two wickets instead of 20 runs.
