Legend player of Bangladesh National Football team Badal Roy died on Sunday at a city hospital. He was 63. He left behind his wife and a large number of well wishers to mourn his death.
He had been suffering from liver cancer before he died.
He got admitted in the Asgar Ali Hospital after he became ill on November 16. Later, when his condition was critical, he was sent to Square Hospitals. After that, the on duty physician advised him to sent him home. When his condition was critical he was sent to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. Later, he was sent to Bangladesh Medical College Hospital. He breathed his last there.
Earlier, He was suffering from brain hemorrhage in 2017. Then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina came forward and sent him Singapore for better treatment. Then he became well.
He played for Bangladesh National Football team from 1981 to 1986. He played Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club from 1977 to 1989. Mohammedan Sporting Club emerged champions five times in the Senior Division Football League and Badal Roy was a member of those squads of Mohammedan Sporting Club.
Badal Roy served as Vice-President of Bangladesh Football Federation. He was also Deputy-Secretary General of Bangladesh Olympic Association before his death.
He was awarded National Sports Award in 2009 for his contribution to Bangladesh’s Sports.
