A legal notice has been served on Wednesday demanding cancellation of the election schedule declared on November 14, 2016 for holding election in Narayanganj City Corporation within 24 hours.
The notice was served as a writ petition is pending on separating Siddhirganj Municipality from Narayanganj City Corporation area.
Advocate Mohammad Ali Zinnah sent this notice on behalf of his client
Abdul Matin Prodhan, a former chief administrator of Siddhirganj Municipality.
In the notice, the authorities concerned have been requested to take necessary steps to stop the holding election of the Narayanganj City Corporation as there is a pending writ petition with the High Court which is awaiting for disposal. Otherwise legal steps should be taken.
Chief Election Commissiner (CEC), Secretary of Local Government, Secretary of Election Commission, Returning Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Narayanganj and Chief Executive of NCC are mentioned as the defendants in the notice.
CEC Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad declared on November 14 the schedule of NCC election fixing December 22 as the voting date.
Advocate Mohammad Ali Zinnah said that, Narayanganj City Corporation was formed on May 5, 2010 including Narayanganj, Siddhirganj and Kadam Rasul Municipality of Bandar Upazila. Its first election was held on October 31, 2011.
In 2013 Abdul Matin filed a writ petition seeking separation of Siddhirganj Municipality. After hearing on the petition a High Court bench issued a rule. The rule is awaiting for disposal. In this circumstances the notice was served.
