Grambangla Unnayan Committee (GUC) and Bangladesh Human Rights Journalist Forum (BHRJF) arranged the seminar at Dhaka Reporters Unity office on Wednesday, says a press release
Khairuzzaman Kamal, Secretary General of BHRJF, chaired the programme while KM Maksud, director of GUC, read out the keynote paper.
According to the United Nations University, the world produced 45.5million tones of electronic waste in 2012 and 93.5 million in 2016.
Now, 356 crore mobile phone sets are being used in the world which may rise to 400 crore in the upcoming year.
Upon the BTRC, Bangladesh is using 11.65 crore mobile sets weighing 1,125 tones. Dhaka city is emerging 0.26km e-waste against per head yearly.
The US keeps its 80% e-waste in the poor countries, creating risk for them.
The quantity of electronic waste is increasing by 5-10% in the world every year with the advancement of technology. The keynote paper has argued that the legal structure is urgently needed to save people and environment from the harmfulness of the electronic waste.
