A legal assistant was declared dead after getting into a scuffle with a plaintiff in front of the bar cafe (bar as it relates to the advocates) at Link Road in the district town on Wednesday noon.
The deceased was identified as Kamal, 55, son of late Md Nasimuddin of the area. He was a legal assistant and former member of PM Khali union of Sadar upazila.
Eyewitness said Kholil Master locked in an altercation with Kamal in the area around 2:30 pm.
As agitated Kholil started to punch Kamal, it caused the latter to fall to the ground clutching his chest at one stage.
Locals took him to Upazila Sadar Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead, they added.
Mizanur Rahman, general secretary of District Lawyer Association, said as a sequel to previous enmity, Kholil hired some terrorists and beat Kamal to death.
Farid Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said necessary legal measures are being taken in this connection.
