Speakers at a views-sharing meeting here have called upon all concerned stakeholders for extending necessary legal assistance to ensure justice for the physically disabled people to ensure their universal human rights.
Rangpur District Protibondhi Legal Aid Committee (RDPLAC), Rangdhanu Zila Protibondhi Adhikar Sangstha (RZPAS) and Prottyasha Protibondhi Nari O Shishu Unnayan Sangstha (PPNSUS) jointly organised the meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
ADD International and Manusher Janno Foundation assisted in arranging the meeting for formation of the new executive committee of RDPLAC on expiry of its term at ‘Adhikar Chamber’ in Katchari bazaar area in the city.
President of RDPLAC Advocate M A Basher Tipu presided over the meeting participated by members of the RDPLAC, leaders of different organisations working for welfare of the physically challenged people, civil society members and professionals.
Capacity Development Facilitator of Rangpur district office of ADD International Marufa Begum, President of RZPAS Nur Alam, President of Prottyasha Protibondhi Nari O Shishu Unnayan Sangstha Khadija Parveen, addressed among others.
The speakers discussed the present situation of the ongoing cases of the disabled population and their limitations in running these cases to get justice for financial, social and physical constraints they have been facing in reality.
They laid emphasis on taking special measures and extending cooperation to assist the disabled persons for ensuring justice through legal process to establish their civic and human rights like other citizens guaranteed in the constitution.
In his speech, Advocate Basher called upon all concerned to extend legal assistance to the physically challenged people for establishing their legal as well as human rights as the society has the moral obligation to do a lot towards the directions.
At the end, the meeting unanimously elected the 17-member new executive committee of RDPLAC with Advocate MA Basher Tipu and Maruf Begum as the President and General Secretary respectively.
The other members of the executive committee are: Vice-presidents- Journalist Mahbub Rahman, Advocate Monwara Sultana Binu and Advocate Kohinoor Begum, Joint Secretaries- Advocate Khairul Alam Kalam, Advocate Khatune Jannat Sweetie and Advocate AKM Harunur Rashid.
Executive Committee Members- Advocate Monwara Khan, Advocate Rebecca Sultana Ferdousi, Advocate Sufia Khatun Mukul, Advocate Sayeed Sarker, Advocate Dilruba Rahman, Advocate Samsia Begum, Advocate Sharmin Hossain Eti, Photojournalist Afzal Hossain and President of RZPAS Nur Alam.
