Legal actions against price manipulators during Ramzan: Mayor

Newly- elected Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) A J M Nasir Uddin yesterday warned that legal actions would be taken against the dishonest businessmen who will create artificial crisis for essential commodities during the upcoming Ramadan.
In a meeting with the importers, wholesalers and retailers at the local circuit house auditorium today Nasir Uddin underlined the need for formulating an action plan in a bid to keep the prices of consumer items stable during Ramadan.
Nasir also sought cooperation from people from all walks of life in the city including business community to help check undue spiral of the price of essential commodities in Ramadan when people will practice self restraints and modesty.
The district administration and CCC has also decided to open shops in the port city so that the people could buy the goods at fair prices during Ramadan.
The meeting also observed that prices of some items like edible oil, pulse, sugar and onion may soar up due to inadequate import and stock, participants of meeting alleged.
President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI)Mahbubul Alam, called upon the traders for keeping marginal profit in Ramadan saying that the government should remain more watchful in checking any attempt to manipulate the market by unscrupulous traders and take effective measures to muster confidence of the honest businessmen
Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mezbah Uddin presided over the function while deputy commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan police Kamrul Amin, Deputy Commander of BGB Tanvir Mahmud, CCCI Vice President Sayed Zamal Ahmed, Importer Abul Bashar Chowdhury, Consumer Association President S M Nazer Hossain and Dokan Malik Samity President Salamat Ali among others took part in the view exchange meeting.
