The half-day hartal called by the Left Democratic Alliance (LDA) , a political alliance protesting at recent price hike of fuel oils, fertiliser and essential commodities for Thursday, was observed in Kishoreganj and elsewhere across the country.
The left leaders and activists in Kishoreganj gathered in front Rongmohal cinema hall in Gouranga Bazar at about 7:00am.They had been chanting slogans to press home their demands and describing the woes of the common people due to the price hike.
The LDA activists also hold rallies at station road, Gourango Bazar, Puranthana, Akrampur , Rathlkhola, Bara Bazar areas in support of the strike,.
Vehicular movement in these areas was seen less but it was seen normal in the other areas. Additional Police forces including DB were deployed in the town.
Additional SP (Administration & Finance) Mustaque Sarker told the New Nation that no untoward situation occurred during the strike. Sylhet Correspondent of New Nation mentioned, half-day hartal called by the Left Democratic Alliance was observed peacefully in Sylhet to protest against the demand for reduction in the price of fuel oil, essential commodities and public transport fares and increase in electricity and gas prices.
This hartal started from 6 am on Thursday, August 25 and will continue till 12 noon. Leaders and activists of leftist organizations are marching and standing on the streets in different places of Sylhet since morning.
LDA leader said, “This government is a government of plunder, a government of vote robbers.” Today they have taken a stand against the people on the side of the corrupt and looters. The government has increased the price of fuel oil to benefit looters. That’s why the price of everything has gone up. As a result, there has been a revival in public life. So you (people) observe our hartal.’
