Chattogram Bureau :
Ninety percent of the work of installing LED lights across the allotted 65 km section of 30 roads in the port city has already been completed. The work of installing LED lights in other parts of the road will be continued in phases, said the city Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury.
He inspected the work of installing more efficient and affordable LED lights in 12 of the 30 roads of the city last night.
Mayo r inspected the installing of LED lights at Arkan Road (Bahaddarhat-Kalurghat), Kwaish-Oxygen, Nasirabad Industrial Area, Marine City Medical Road, Zakir Hossain Road, City Gate-Alankar, Dhaka Trunk Road, Kadamtali Road, Ice Factory Road, Chittagong College on Thursday night. Visited Kapasgola Road and expressed satisfaction over the progress of the work.
Mayor Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said the Chittagong City Corporation, as a local government body, is mainly responsible for maintaining enlightenment and cleanliness in the city and the city dwellers pay taxes to fulfill this responsibility. CCC’s ability depends on the success of these two sectors. So these two sectors are given more priority.
He added that CCC pays dues to PDB for road lighting. The main management of power supply is the responsibility of PDB without the responsibility of lighting the street lights. But due to managerial errors, the city’s road lighting is sometimes disrupted.
He urged the PDB to be vigilant and diligent so that it does not happen. He said the city’s road lighting is a matter of public importance. Lack of adequate illumination or dark roads at night increases crime and accidents. So in this case there is no respite. “I want an enlightened city, I want everyone’s cooperation for this,” he added.
