Visiting International Hockey Federation (IHF) president Leandro Negre made a courtesy call on Sports Minister Biren Sikdar at his office at the Secretariat on Monday.
They both exchanged views on the development of hockey. IHF President lauded Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) for taking positive steps for the development of hockey in Bangladesh.
He said there are possibilities for development of Hockey in Bangladesh and believes BHF in future, is capable of hosting international tournaments at Moulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium in Dhaka with the modernization of stadium and establishing floodlight system.
Negre also said that Bangladesh hockey team needs a foreign coach on long term basis and assured Bangladesh Sports Minister that IHF will extend helping hand in this connection.
Biren Sikder said told Negre that his ministry has already taken steps for the modernization of the stadium. He assured Negre that having a floodlight in this stadium will be under consideration.
He also believes that a long time international hockey coach is needed for the development of hockey in Bangladesh and his ministry is going to take seriously the appointment of International hockey coach. He also informed IHF president that there is a plan to set up a new hockey synthetic turf at BKSP.
Sports secretary Nur Mohammed, general secretary of BHF, Khaja Rahmatullah were present during the call on.
