The Secretary General of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Redwan Ahmed, was detained for carrying seven rounds of bullet and a magazine without notifying about these to the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) authorities on Monday morning.
The airport authorities handed him to police after initial interrogation for
carrying the bullets in his bag without prior declaration, though he has a license the firearms, said Aviation Security Forces Director Nur Alam Siddique.
As per the airport rules, the LDP leader did not inform the airport authorities or handed over the bullets. The authorities handed him over to the airport police, he said.
Redwan Ahmed was expected to fly to Chattogram at 7:15am on a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The security officials detected the bullets with a magazine while scanning his bag at the domestic terminal’s check-point, said Airport Police Station OC Noor-e-Azam Mia.
He said, “Although he has legal documents of his weapon, he carried it without declaration at the airport. That’s why he will face legal action.”
Redwan has been sent to the court,” he added.
Redwan Ahmed told the airport authorities that he was not aware that the bullets were in his bag.
