Sylhet Correspondent :
Work to prepare the list of ultra-poor for rural rationing programme in Sylhet Division couldn’t complete yet due to lack of cooperation among the union parishad officials, sources said.
Regional controller of Food, Sylhet Division, Md Anisuzzaman said, even on repeated attempts we couldn’t yet collect the lists from the elected leaders though the deadline is passing fast. “We have been in much trouble for the unusual delay in making the ward and union-level list of many areas in the division’s four districts,” he said, adding, “Things should be completed by the current month any way. We would have to precede our job even with the partial list by this time”.
Under the government decision, the Food Department started the listing job weeks ago with a target to complete it by the end of August, the official said.
Sale of rice at Tk 10 per kg would begin among the listed poor in the region at the end of this month, he further said.
As per programme a total of about 349,527 ultra-poor are being listed in the region. Of this, 52,330 would be in 12 upazilas of Sylhet, 51,009 in six upazilas of Moulvibazar, 154,561 in eight upazilas under Habiganj and 91,628 in 11 upazilas in Sunamganj.
But, listing of even 60 per cent beneficiaries couldn’t be done in Habiganj, Moulvibazar and Sunamganj districts till today whereas it is above 60 per cent in Sylhet, the regional controller informed further. The performance in Moulvibazar is far behind, he added.
He, however, said most of the UP chairmen and members didn’t yet take oath due to their election in the last phase of elections. On the other hand, the Food Department has started appointing of food dealers in this respect.
“The upazila-level committees were asked to complete the job immediately”, he said.
