Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Motiur Rahman Nizami has asked his lawyers to file an appeal to the higher court against the verdict of International Crimes Tribunal that awarded him death penalty.
The Jamaat Chief gave the instruction when his lawyers met him at Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur on Saturday noon, sources said.
Nizami’s son Barrister Nazib Momen, Advocate Motiur Rahman Akand and Advocate Asad Uddin were among his counsels.
Confirming the matter, Jail Super of Kashimpur High Security Unit Mizanur Rahman said, “A three-member defence lawyers team met the death convict Jamaat chief Motiur Rahman Nizami at the jail gate at 12 noon. They stayed for half an hour there and held talks with
Nizami.” Earlier on October 29, the ICT-1 awarded death penalty to Jamaat Chief for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
