Lawyers meet Kamaruzzaman in jail

Lawyers of condemned war criminal M Kamaruzzaman met him at Dhaka Central Jail on Thursday morning. Senior jail super of the central jail Forman Ali told UNB that four lawyers, led by Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand, entered the jail around 10:30am. They spent about half an hour with Kamaruzzaman and got out of the jail, added Forman Ali. The three other lawyers are Barister Ihsan A Siddique, Advocate M Shishir Monir and Advocate M Moshiul Alam. Earlier on Wednesday morning, ten members of Kamaruzzaman’s family, including wife, sons and daughter, met him at Dhaka Central Jail. M Kamaruzzaman was shifted to the central jail from Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur on Tuesday (November 4). The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday upheld the tribunal judgment that had sentenced the Jamaat-e-Islami assistant secretary general to death for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of 1971. On May 9 last year, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 condemned Kamaruzzaman to death for his crimes against humanity, including murder, abduction, torture, rape and mass killing during the Liberation War of 1971. On June 6 last year, war criminal Kamaruzzaman filed the appeal with the Supreme Court challenging the ICT-2 verdict. — UNB, Dhaka
