BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is apparently angered at the failure of her lawyers to get her released from jail though the legal battle.
Although he did not admit the matter, Khaleda’s counsel Mahbub Uddin Khokon said the BNP chief is frustrated at the cases where she was sentenced without committing any crime.
Khandker Mahbub Hossian, senior member of Khaleda’s lawyer panel, said there was lack of coordination in conducting case proceedings and experienced lawyers were not assigned for this which might have angered the BNP chief.
Meanwhile, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said the steps of the BNP chief’s lawyers were mysterious in many cases.
Khokon said Khaleda expressed her anger at cases. “She was angered as she had to remain in jail for more than two years even after not committing any crime.”
He, however, denied the matter that she was frustrated at the lawyers.
Khandker Mahbub said the BNP chairperson was not frustrated at the cases. “She might have been angered at the lack of coordination in running cases.”
He said she was in frustration as a specific person was assigned to conduct the cases instead of experienced lawyers.
Meanwhile, ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam said most of the steps of Khaleda’s lawyers were shrouded in mystery.
The government released the BNP chairperson on March 25 last on humanitarian grounds following appeal filed by her family after all attempts to free her through legal battle and political means went in vain.
She was convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case and sent to jail on February 8, 2018.
