Charge denied: Lawyers boycott court demanding judge’s removal

Netrakona Correspondent :The lawyers of Netrakona District Bar Association started boycotting the Netrakona district judge court here today (Thursday) for an indefinite period demanding removal of the District Judge Mohammad Amirul Islam for , what they said, corruption-oriented activities of the district judge. Talking to the local journalists the general secretary of the bar association Advocate Mohammad Shahidullah said that the decision for boycotting the court was unanimouslyapproved in an “emergency meeting” of the district bar association held at it’s office on Thursday.Chaired by president of the bar association Advocate Shahnewaj Fakir, the meeting was addressed by the association’s senior leaders including public prosecutor (PP) of the district G M Khan Pathan Bimol, general secretary of the bar association Advocate Shahidullah and Advocate Nazrul Islam Khan. The meeting discussed the matters relating to the autocratic and corruption-oriented activities of the district judge and underlined the need for his quick removal for upholding the rule of law. The meeting also drew the attention of the Law Ministry for taking urgent measures to remove the district judge for mitigating the sufferings of the justice seekers of the district. After the meeting, the lawyers of the bar association brought out a procession which was paraded different roads adjoining the judge court building. The lawyers chanted different slogans demanding removal of the district judge. When asked for comment, the district judge Amirul Islam told the New Nation correspondent over a mobile phone that the allegations brought against him were utter lie, baseless and motivated. In this context, the district judge also said that meanwhile a letter was dispatched to the law ministry from his office to let the ministry know about the actual situation.
