UNB, Dhaka :
Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashrful Islam in Parliament on Monday blamed the law enforcement agencies and influential quarters for not fully freeing the footpath of Dhaka City from illegal grabbers.
“Despite goodwill and sincere efforts of the corporations (Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation), illegal grabbers could not be evicted from the footpaths completely for lack of sincerity of law enforcement agencies and patronization of influential quarters,” he said.
The LGRD Minister was replying to a scripted question of Awami League MP AFM Bahauddin Nasim (Madaripur-3).
Syed Ashraf said that the city corporations are continuously conducting mobile courts to free the footpaths from illegal grabbers to facilitate smooth movement of pedestrians in the capital. But illegal hawkers and grabbers reoccupy the footpaths soon after the eviction drives.
Even after frequent drives in the same place do not bring the excepted result, he added.
