Law and order now better: Asad

The country’s law and order situation is now better than any other time, says Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan.
The Home Minister came up with the remark while addressing a meeting on law and order situation at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner here on Wednesday. The government has taken an initiative to modernise Rab as well as reorganise police force aiming to maintain the law and order across the country, he added.
A target was set to recruit 50,000 people to the police force and 10,000 of them have already got the job while a process for the recruitment of 24,000 others is underway, Asaduzzaman said.
He said the number of coastguards will be raised to 2,500 from the existing 2,000 for maritime security. Already four vessels have been added to the Coast Guard and the necessary works are on to procure more.
Terming drug abuse a major problem, Asaduzzaman said the government has taken many necessary steps to stop drug abuse. Besides, drug peddlers are being punished through launching mobile courts instantly, he said.
The minister also inaugurated a cricket tournament here on the occasion of the 4th founding anniversary of Pirojpur United Royal Club.
Ruling party MP of Pirojpur-1 constituency AKMA Awal, MP of Habiganj-3 constituency Advocate Abu Zahir, Superintendent of Pirojpur Police Walid Hossain, among others, attended the meeting with Pirojpur deputy commissioner Khairul Alam Sheikh in the chair.
