The Dhaka-bound launch ‘MV Sattar Khan’ with over 700 passengers got stuck in the Meghna River under Haimchar Upazila in Chandpur district early Saturday and it was rescued around 3:00pm, police said. Quoting the passengers, Haimchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman confirmed the matter and said that the launch ‘MV Sattar Khan’ left Dhaka for Patuakhali and got stuck in the river at 12:30am. Chandpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Ameer Jafar said that, a launch left district launch terminal to rescue the stuck launch following a information of the incident.He said that MV Sattar Khan had been rescued after fourteen hours and the staff of the vessel have been detained.Chandpur Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Deputy Director Md Mobarak Hossain said that the local administrative authorities had confiscated the ferry on charges of carrying excess passengers.
