‘Laudable success in sanitation improves public health index’

Speakers at a sanitary latrine distribution ceremony Wednesday said the rural public health index has marked improvement with reduction in water-borne diseases following laudable success achieved in sanitation coverage.
World Vision Bangladesh (WVB) under its Area Development Programme (ADP) organised the ceremony at Notkhana Balapara village under Sadar upazila in Nilphamari for distributing latrines among 80 backward families of Notkhana and Tarunibari villages.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Nilphamari Sadar upazila Md Sabet Ali attended the ceremony and distributed the sanitary latrines as the chief guest with Nilphamari Sadar ADP Manager of WVB Bimal James Costs in the chair.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) for Nilphamari Sadar upazila Sabiha Sultana, chairman of local Polashbari union parishad Tapan Kumar Roy, Khokshabari union parishad chairman Bodiuzzaman Pradhan and Manager of Children Welfare Project of WVB Subir Kumar Roy addressed the ceremony.
Under its ‘Sanitation Programme for Sound Heath-2014’, the NGO has so far distributed 326 sanitary latrines among the socially backward families of different villages in Nilphamari Sadar upazila.
The speakers lauded the success achieved in sanitation as almost all of the rural population has already been brought under its coverage pushing the country in achieving complete sanitation coverage for all soon in the process of building a healthy nation.
They called for ensuring sanitation facilities for every family to keep the environment clean and maintaining good hygienic condition for all to make the government’s sanitation programme successful at the earliest.
They stressed for implementation of the government’s sanitation strategies to attain the set goals with active roles and participations of all stakeholders including officials, different organisations, local government bodies, media and NGOs.
Lauding the WVB initiative, the chief guest put emphasis on achieving total sanitation coverage for all citizens at the earliest for building a middle income digital Bangladesh through realising the Vision-2021 as envisioned by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
