UNB, Dhaka: Removed minister Abdul Latif Siddique, who was arrested for his anti-Islamic remarks, was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) from Dhaka Central Jail after he fell sick at the jail on Saturday. Latif, who has been suffering from heart problems, complained of chest pain at the prison around 11am, senior jail super Forman Ali told UNB. He was taken to the BSMMU prison cell around 4pm as per doctors’ advice following a check-up, Forman Ali added. Earlier on November 25, a Dhaka court sent Abdul Latif Siddique to jail in a case filed for hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims through his disparaging remarks on Islam and Tablig Jamaat. On October 1, advocate ANM Abed Raja, a former president of Dhaka Metropolitan Bar Association, filed the case against Latif with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. On October 28, the same court issued a warrant for the arrest of the former minister as he did not turn up in compliance with its order. Abdul Latif Siddique returned home on November 23 from India. The former Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister turned up to the Dhanmondi Police Station, two days after his return braving several court warrants pending for his arrest.
