People from all walks of life paid their last tributes to veteran columnist, researcher, writer and journalist Syed Abul Maksud after his body was taken to the Central Shaheed Minar on Wednesday afternoon.
Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque draped the coffin of journalist Syed Abul Maksud with the national flag of Bangladesh. Then people from all walks of life started paying tributes to the late journalist by placing wreath on his coffin.

Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque said the writings of Syed Abul Maksud on the independence and liberation war of Bangladesh will always inspire the present generation. “He (Syed Abul Maksud) will always remain alive in the hearts of Bengali-speaking people. His departure was really very painful for all of us. We convey our profound shock and sympathy to his bereaved family members,” he said.
Bangla Academy, Awami League, Awami Swecchasebak League, CPB, Workers Party of Bangladesh, Khet Majur Samitry, Bhasani Parishad, Oikya NAP, Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Samajtrantrik Chhatra Front, Bangladesh Chhatra League, BSD, Chhatra Federation, Ganasanghati Andolon, and dozens of other socio-cultural organisations paid their last tributes to the coffin of late journalist.
Earlier, the body of veteran columnist, researcher, and writer Syed Abul Maksud was taken to the Central Shaheed Minar from the National Press Club in the capital.
His body was brought at 2:30 pm on Wednesday. Journalists took part in a namaz-e-janaza after paying tributes to him.
Syed Nasif Maksud, son of Syed Abul Maksud, said his father’s body would be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar to pay homage after the namaz-e-janaza at the National Press Club. After a namaj-e-janaza over there, another namaz-e-janaza will be held at the Central Jame Mosque of Dhaka University. He will be buried at Azimpur Graveyard in the afternoon.
Journalist Syed Abul Maksud was taken to Square Hospital in the capital on Tuesday afternoon from his residence after he fell unconscious having breathing difficulties. There the doctors pronounced him as dead.
