The last meeting of the current cabinet will be held on Dec 3, ahead of the general election.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made the announcement at a regular meeting of the cabinet on Monday.
The cabinet held its 201st meeting, chaired by Hasina, at the Secretariat on Monday.
“The prime minister said the final cabinet meeting will be on Monday, Dec 3,” a minister told bdnews24.com on the condition of anonymity. According to the election schedule, the 11th parliamentary election will be held on Dec 30.
“The prime minister instructed cabinet members running in the election to spend time in their constituencies,” the minister said. “She also said that everyone should work together to ensure the victory of the boat.” Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam had said after the announcement of the schedule that the cabinet would continue to meet after the election-time government had taken over.
Though the government has not officially formed any election-time government, the cabinet secretary and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader have repeatedly stated that the election-time government began operating after the Election Commission announced the polls schedule.
On Nov 6, before the announcement of the schedule, the prime minister had instructed the technocrat ministers to resign. Minister of Religious Affairs Matior Rahman, Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Islam, Ministry of Science and Technology Yeafesh Osman and Ministry of Telecoms and Information Technology Mustafa Jabbar then submitted their resignation letters.
Though the letters have been submitted, the resignations have yet to be accepted, and so the four ministers have been attending the cabinet meetings, Alam said.
