Laptop loan for girl students

The government has taken an initiative to provide loan to second year students of Eden Girls’ University College at a lower interest rate for purchasing laptops.
The decision was taken at a tripartite meeting held on last Thursday at the office of the Principal of Eden Girls University Collage, aiming to facilitate their entry into enormous web-based knowledge bank making the best use of Information Communication Technology (ICT), reports UNB.
Education Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Khan, Principal of Eden Collage Professor Husne Ara, Managing Director of Trust Bank Limited Ishtiaque Ahmed, Deputy Managing Director Abu Zafar Mohammad Hedael Ullah and Head of Retail Banking Mahuda Momen, among others, attended the meeting.
At the meeting, the Trust Bank Limited agreed to provide loan at 9 percent interest for purchasing laptops under Refinance Schemes of the Bangladesh Bank.
 “Laptop loan for students is not only supporting them for e-learning but also creating an opportunity to improve their ICT skills, which is useful for earning money and ensuring wider access to job markets,” Education Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan said.
The Education Secretary pointed out that the access of students to ICT would also help create income-generating opportunities through outsourcing and other ICT-related activities.
The meeting decided to hold a meeting with Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman for launching Refinance Schemes for providing loan for purchasing laptops by university and collage students.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education held a series of meetings with Dhaka University authorities for initiating laptop loan for students and there has been significant progress in this regard, the Education Secretary said.
