Lanka pile up 294/8 against BD

Sri Lanka piled up a good total of 294 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 50 overs against visiting Bangladesh in the last One Day International (ODI) match at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday.
Sri Lanka had a poor start as opener Avishka Fernando (6) was trapped leg before wicket by pacer Shafiul Islam when
 Sri Lanka’s total was just 13.
After Fernando’s dismissal, Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Perera repaired the damage adding together 83 runs in the second wicket stand before Karunaratne was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Taijul Islam when the hosts’ score was 96 for the loss of two wickets.
Karunaratne hit a polished 46. His 60-ball innings had six fours.
Kusal Perera was caught behind by Mushfiqur Rahim off Rubel Hossain when the islanders’ total was 98 for the loss of three wickets.
Perera made 42 from 51 balls featuring five fours.
Second-down Kusal Mendis and third-down Angelo Mathews added together 101 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Kusal Mendis was caught at the long-on by Sabbir Rahman off Soumya Sarkar when Sri Lanka’s score was 199 for the loss of four wickets.
Kusal Mendis notched up a fine 54. His 58-ball knock saw five fours and a sixer. It was Kusal’s 16th ODI half-century.
Then Angelo Mathews and Dusan Shanaka put on together 52 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Shanaka was caught at the long-off by Sabbir Rahman off Shafiul Islam when the home side’s total was 252 for the loss of five wickets.
Shanaka scored 30 from 14 balls including two fours and two sixes.Shehan Jayasuriya (13) was caught at the cover by Tamim Iqbal off Shafiul Islam when Sri Lanka’s score was 280 for the loss of six wickets. Angelo Mathews hit a captain’s knock of 87. His 90-ball innings ornamented eight fours and two sixes. It was Mathews’ 40th ODI half-century.
He was caught behind by Mushfiqur Rahim off Soumya Sarkar when the team’s total was 284 for the loss of seven wickets.
Akila Dananjaya (0) was caught at the long-off by Sabbir Rahman off Soumya Sarkar when Sri Lanka’s score was 284 for the loss of eight wickets.
Wanindu Hasaranga remained unbeaten with 12, while CA Rajitha remained unbeaten with naught akhing BD to score 295 to win.
Soumya Sarkar and Shafiul Islam grabbed three wickets each instead of 56 and 68 runs respectively.
Taijul Islam and Rubel Hossain took one wicket each for 34 and 55 runs respectively.
