Nayeem bags 6/105: Lanka make 397 in 1st innings on day 2 of 1st Test

A six-wicket haul by right-arm off spinner Nayeem Hasan powered Bangladesh to dismiss Sri Lanka for 397 in the first innings on the second day play of the first Test cricket match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Monday. Nayeem bagged six wickets for 105 runs.
In reply, Bangladesh scored 76 for the loss of none before the bails were drawn for the second day. Tamim Iqbal was on 35 and Mahmudul Hasan Joy was on 31 before the two umpires drew the bails.
Bangladesh trailed by 321 in the first innings.
Left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan gave Nayeem a good support claiming three wickets at the cost of 60 runs.
Sri Lanka resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 258 for the loss of four wickets.
Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal resumed their innings with the over-night score of 114 and 34 runs respectively.
Later, Mathews and Chandimal added more 61 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Chandimal was trapped leg before wicket by Nayeem Hasan when the visitors’ total was 319 for the loss of five wickets.
Chandimal knocked a patient 66. He hit three sixes and two fours in his 148-ball innings. It was Chandimal’s 21st half-century in Test cricket.
After Chandimal’s dismissal, fifth-down Niroshan Dickwella (3) was bowled out by Nayeem when the tourists’ score was 323 for the loss of six wickets.
Number-7 batter Ramesh Mendis (1) was bowled out by Shakib Al Hasan when the touring side’s score was 328 for the loss of seven wickets.
Seventh-down Lasith Embuldeniya (0) was trapped leg before wicket by Shakib Al Hasan when Sri Lanka’s total was 328 for the loss of eight wickets.
Number-11 batter Asitha Fernando (1) was bowled out by Nayeem Hasan when the tourists’ score was 390 for the loss of nine wickets.
Angelo Mathews was deprived from a double century for just one run. He notched up a terrific 199. He hit 19 fours and one sixer in his 397-ball innings before he was caught at the square leg by Shakib Al Hasan off Nayeem Hasan when Sri Lanka’s innings came to an end.
