Language Movement veteran Ali Taher Majumdar died at the age of 103.
Taher, who was long suffering from old-age complications, breathed his last at his residence at Chanpur area of Comilla on Saturday.
Born on February 12, 1918, he actively took part in the Anti-British Movement, Language Movement, Six-Point Movement and Bangladesh’s Liberation War.
He is survived by two sons and two daughters.
Confirming the death, Sadar Dakshin Upazila Chairman Golam Sarowar said the veteran died on Saturday morning and was buried at his family graveyard in Chanpur.
Taher, who studied up to 10th class in Comilla District School, became involved in Congress politics in 1935 during his student life.
He took active part in the Quit India Movement in 1942 and later joined the 8th Punjab Army during World War II, but did not return to the force following leave after seven-eight months of training.

At that time, Ali Taher Majumder started working as a spy for Netaji Subhash Basu and distributed Basu’s leaflets in Comilla and Feni.
Before the partition of the country, when communal riots broke out in Noakhali in 1947, he formed a committee against communal riots in Comilla.
Ali Taher has also worked for the formation of an independent government with the Bengali-speaking areas planned by Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy and Sarat Bose.
