The Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day was observed in different districts and Upazilas on Monday. In the observance of the day, the District Administration, ruling party Awami Legue and other political parties, various socio- cultural organizations and educational institutions chalked out elaborate programmes. Bagerhat Correspondent says: The Language Martyrs’ Day and the International Mother Language Day was observed in Bagerhat town and it’s all the nine Upazilas with due respect maintaining health guidelines on Monday as in order to pay glowing tributes to the memories of the language movement martyrs, the valiant sons of the soil who made supreme sacrifices to establish the rights of the mother tongue, Bangla, in 1952. It may be mentioned here that ‘February 21 (Ekushey February)’ was recognized by the UNESCO as the International Mother Language Day on November 17, 1999.
Bagerhat District Administration earlier chalked out an elaborate programme to observe the Day in a befitting manner. Different political-socio-cultural organizations, including the ruling Awami League, took earlier various programmes such as seminar cultural functions, Milad Mahfil to observe the Amar (immortal) Ekushey and International Mother Language Day in a befitting manner.
The day’s programme started with the placing of floral wreaths on the altar of the local central Shahhed Minar (situated in front of Bagerhat Collegiate School) at 12-01 am by Mohammad Azizur Rahman, DC, Bagerhat and K M Ariful Islam, Police Super of Bagerhat ceremonially on be half of Bagerhat district administration and Bagerhat district Police administration respectively. Floral wreaths were also placed on the Shaheed Minar by the different political-socio-cultural organizations and different educational institutions like district Awami League and its front organizations, Bagerhat Pourashava, Bagerhat Bar Association, Bagerhat Press Club, local SANAC (Sachetan Nagarik Committee) of TIB (Transparency International Bangladesh. It was followed with discussion meetings, painting and hand writing competitions of the children, cultural function and special prayers (offered in the mosques, temples and churches) for the salvation of the departed souls of those who sacrificed their lives on this day for the cause of mother language-Bangla.
Gazipur Correspondent reports: Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) observed the ‘Amar Ekushey’, the Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day 2022 on Monday in compliance with hygiene rules with profound respect and solemnity. Various programs also chalked out marking the day.
The day’s programmes started with placing wreaths at the Institute’s Shaheed Minar to pay the homage to the martyrs at one minute past midnight which is led by BARI Director General Dr. Debasish Sarker with other directors, scientists, officers, employees, teachers, labors and representative of various organizations.
The day’s programme also included, hoisting the national flag at half-mast; placing wreaths al the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; Probhat Ferry with the participations of scientists, officers, staff, teachers, labors and representative of various organizations. A discussion meeting also held on ‘Amar Ekushey’, the Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day after the Probhat Ferry. BARI Director General Dr. Debasish Sarker, Director (Support & Services) Dr. Md. Kamrul Hasan, Director (Research) Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam, Director (Horticulture) Dr. Apuba Kanti Choudhury, Director (Tuber Crops Research Center) Dr. Sohela Akhter, Director (ORC) Dr. Md. Abdul Latif Akanda and leaders of the BARI Scientists Association (BARISA), Diploma Krishibid Institution BARI Branch, BARI Employees Welfare Society (BARIKA), Class IV Employees Association (BARICHA), BARI Labor Association spoke in the discussion meeting.
Special prayers were held after the Johr prayer at all Mosques of BARI for the forgiveness of the souls of the martyrs and the happiness, peace and prosperity of the country. Special prayers are also held in BARI’s temple and church in the evening.
Gazipur (Sadar) Correspondent says: On the occasion of the International Mother Language and Martyrs’ Day a free blood donation programme was held at Sreepur, Gazipur with a joint venture of Youth Square Bangladesh and Tanzeem Foundation. The day-long programme was organized on Monday in front of Billal Master Hospital at Mauna Chowrasta in the upazila .
The organization carries out this service through voluntary blood donation, prescription by a specialist doctor, pathological examination and distribution of free medicine.
The program was inaugurated by Abdul Malek, Sreepur Correspondent of the Dainik Jugantar and General Secretary of Sreepur Upazila Private Hospital Owners’ Association under the chairmanship of Taosiful Islam Riyad, Chairman of the organization.
Prof. Rafiqul Islam, Founder of Academy and College and President of Sreepur Upazila Private Hospital Owners Association was also present as the Chief Guest. Among others, Gazipur District Representative of Asian TV Mahmudul Hasan, M Sadequl Hasan Tanmoy, a student of Guangzhou Medical College, Tawsinul Islam Tajin, journalist Belayet Sheikh, Mizanur Rahman and other members of the organization were present as special guests.
JU Correspondent says: International Mother Language Day was observed on Monday in a befitting manner on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus.
Marking the day, teachers, students, officers and employees of the university paid glowing tributes to the language martyrs.
JU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Farzana Islam placed wreaths at the altar of the university’s Central Shaheed Minar at one minute past midnight in the early morning of Monday while JU Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr Nurul Alam, Pro VC (Administration) Prof Sheikh Md. Munjurul Haque, Treasurer Prof Rasheda Akhter and deans of different faculties were present at the time.
Later, Jahangirnagar University Teachers’ Association (JUTA), Jahangirnagar University Journalists’ Association (JUJA) along with different students and teachers’ organisations placed wreaths separately at the altar of the Shaheed Minar.
Besides, teachers and officials of the university brought out a morning procession (Prabhat Feri) around 6.30 am that started from Officers Club and ended at the Central Shaheed Minar of the university.
Meanwhile, the university authorities also organized different programmes on the campus to mark the day. The Teacher-Student Center (TSC) of JU also organised a virtual cultural programme.
Netrakona Correspondent reports: The Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day was observed in Netrakona on Monday by paying glowing tributes to the language movement martyrs .
Netrakona District Administration and various socio-cultural organizations, political parties, professional groups and educational institutions chalked out separate programmes highlighting the significance of the day abiding by the health guidelines due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The day’s programme formally began at one minute past midnight with placing of floral wreaths at Netrakona central Shaheed Minar here. State Minister for social welfare and valiant freedom fighter Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru at first placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.
Then, he was followed by Habiba Rahman Khan Shefali MP, Deputy Commissioner of Netrakona Kazi Mohammad Abdur Rahman, police super Netrakona Akber Ali Munshi, chairman of Netrakona Zila Parishad Prasanta Kumar Ray and panel Mayor of Netrakona municipality SM Mohasinul Alam, local freedom fighters, civil society members.
As part of the programme, the national flag was hoisted at half mast atop all public and private buildings across the district.
Besides, a discussion meeting on “language movement” and competition on art and essay writings for school children were held here virtually under the auspices of the district administration and Shishu academy.
District information office arranged screening of documentary film show on the “language movement “for the local people at the central Shaheed Minar premises.
Manikganj Correspondent says: The Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day was observed here on Monday in a befitting manner.
District administration took elaborate programmes to observe the day. The programmes included placing of wreaths at Shaheed Minar, hoisting of national flags at half-mast atop of all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings, mourning procession, discussion, special prayer seeking divine blessings of language martyrs, poem recitation and painting competition for the school students.
DC Muhammad Abdul Latif, Superintendent of Police (SP) Golam Azad Khan, Chairman of Manikganj Zila Parishad Advocate Golam Mohiuddin, Muktijoddha Sangshad, Shaheed Rafique’s family and people from all walks of life placed wreaths at the central Shaheed Minar at Manikganj Govt. High School.
“Bhasha Shaheed Rafique Smriti Parishad” at Rafique Nagar of the district also observed the day with a four day programmes at “Shaheed Rafique Mukto Monch” which included Milad Mahfil, discussion, recitation, staging drama, placing the wreath and cultural function. MP Momtaj Begum formally inaugurated the programme.
Relief and Social Service Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Sujit Roy Nandi was present on the occasion as the chief guest..
