Language hero Nurul Islam passes away

Language Movement veteran M Nurul Islam Dadu Bhai passed away at a hospital on Wednesday at the age of 91.
Dadu Bhai, a former BNP MP from Khulna-4 constituency, breathed his last at Khulna City Medical College around 8am, said Moniruzzaman, General Secretary of Khulna Metropolitan city unit BNP.
He left behind his three sons, a daughter and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
He was born in Khulna at Babu Khan road on May 2, 1934.
Nurul Islam, the eldest son of Dr Khadem Ahmed and Asia Khatun, played a role in the Language Movement in Khulna and took part in the rally in 1952.

He was the General Secretary of Khulna unit NAP (National Awami Party) in 1957 and also led the 1969 mass upsurge from Khulna.

Nurul also played an important role in the Liberation War.

He was the President of Khulna city unit NAP and Jatiyatabadi Jukto Front of Ziaur Rahman in 1978.

Nurul was elected MP from Khulna-4 constituency in 2001 and worked as the member of the advisory council of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
