A children-juvenile painting competition and scholarship distribution function was held to observe 80th birth anniversary of language-hero Azharuddin.
The painting competition was held at the alter of Bijoy-Bihango in Swadhinita Mancho of the city on Monday night. The festival was arranged by Bhashasoinik A K M Azhar Uddin Shikkha Trusta (BSAKMAUST) in collaboration with voluntary organisation Abishkar. Total 108 competitors participated in the competition under three groups. A K M Shahidullah, Barisal City Corporation Panel Mayor, Moniruzzaman, renowned artist, Sushanta Ghosh, journalist, as guests distributed prizes among the competitors.The prize giving ceremony was presided over by S M Omar Faruk Rumi, president, BSAKMAUST and addressed among others by Abu Bakar Siddik Sohel, chairman Abishkar.
Under the programmes of same festival on Tuesday afternoon scholarships were distributed among the 34 financially needy meritorious students.
The scholarship distribution programme was held at Bangladesh Development Society Auditorium attended by Ahsan Habib Kamal, BCC Mayor and Shohidul Alam, deputy commissioner Barisal.
Speakers and participants of the programmes urged to stand by side of the distressed and meritorious youths following the path of Bhasha Soinik Azhar Uddin to develop the country with patriotic sprit.
