Langadu upazila under Rangamati district with a population of over 30,000 was declared as the new upazila free from early marriage and dowry.
Langadu upazila parishad chairman Tofazzal Hussein formally made the announcement Wednesday at a function organized at the upazila parishad auditorium.
Public representatives, marriage registers, mosques Imams, parents, teachers of local school, madrasah and colleges and guardians were present on the occasion.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of the upazila Nizamuddin attended the ceremony as special guest with president of school managing committee Ziaur Rahman Juwel in the chair.
