Chattogram District Administration has started making in the hill pockets of the port city to leave the hill side areas as the landslide is feared following the ongoing heavy downpour since Friday.
The miking against the unwanted landslide is continuing from Saturday . People residing in various govt owned hills sides and private hills have been requested to leave their abode in hillpockets immediately and asked to take shelter in the newly opened shelters. A number of shelter centres opened at Pahartali girls high school, Firoz Shah E Block School, Polytechnic college area, Model high school, Jalalabad Housing society centre, Al Hera Islamia Madrasha, Roufabad Model High School, Lalkhan Govt Primary School, Syedabad School for accommodating these hill pocket residents.
No-man’s land refugee camp flooded: The Rohingya camp of no-man’s land on the Ghumdhum border of Naikhangchhari upazila has been submerged for Heavy Rainfall and the Landslide of the Hills. Moreover, many houses of the central part of the border are Kanarpara, Bazar Para, and Madhyam Pari flooded.
As a result, around five thousand Rohingya and locals have been suffering. According to Dil Mohamed, Rohingya leader of no man’s land camp near the corner, Kanarpara Rohingya camp was submerged due to the continuous rain and hail from last Wednesday.
He also said some high-ups and high-ranking Rohingya refugees took shelter in Bangladesh who are leading in a miserable life.
According to local people and Rohingya, Flood is increasing for Heavy rainfall and thunder storm, this problem has been created due to obstruction of water flow through the border canal.
Ghumdhum UP chairman AKM Jahangir Aziz said that the Rohingya camp of zero-line was submerged due to heavy rains. Although there were no casualties, there was widespread damage.
Besides, the construction of the Myanmar Bridge on the border was created and the network was flooded due to obstacles in the flow of water and several areas including the market were flooded.
Naikkhanchhari Upazila Executive Officer Sadia Afrin Kochi said that upazila administration is ready to face any kind of disaster.
