Locals organised a symbolic suicides and human chain protesting land and road encroachment in front of Jayanagar Wabda Gate (Charmirkamari) in Isahwardi Upazila on Friday. A complaint has been made against Jalal Uddin Tuhin, a member of Awami League’s Industry and Commerce Sub-Committee and Central Finance Secretary of Bangabandhu Parishad.
It is known that the deceased Abdur Rashid Pramanik of Chramrikari village has a homestead and a rice mill on the 71st century land of his heirs. Among the 10 heirs of this property, Abdur Rashid’s two heirs sold about 0.725 cents of land to Ajmeri Sultana, wife of Jalaluddin Tuhin.
Victim Abul Kalam Azad Rashem and 5 others said that on July 24, Jalal Uddin Tuhin and his wife Ajmeri Sultana’s terrorist forces surrounded the road and the mill house and looted the mill machinery. This traffic road of the mill is connected to IK Road and villagers and students travel through this road. There are also preemption cases in court against the purchase of partnership property. The complaint also states that the property purchased by Tuhin’s wife includes a homestead. We are living an inhumane life as the source of income is cut off due to encroachment and encroachment of roads and rice mills without occupying the homestead property. It is also alleged that they are constantly issuing death threats.
In this incident, the victims sought the intervention of Hon’ble Prime Minister, Deputy Commissioner of Pabna, Superintendent of Police, Upazila Executive Officer. The victims protested suicide by hanging the hanging rope around their necks.
On behalf of the victims, Moktar Hossain, Akhter Hossain, Shamim Hossain Babu, Samchul Alam Sumon, Shahidul Islam Milon and the families of the victims were present.
In this regard, Jalal Uddin Tuhin said, lies have been purposely told to defame me. The area where 0.725 per cent of land was purchased is enclosed. Referring to the homestead in the document, he said, the homestead can no longer be enclosed. The vacant land of that spot is enclosed. Those whose land I bought are relatives. If you pay, I will return the land.
