Speakers at a seminar underscored the need for land record digitization across the country as it [the land record digitization] would ensure land right security and also reduce land record related cost drastically.
The speakers said this on Monday while presenting a keynote paper on ‘Smart Intervention for 7th Plan Priorities’ at BRAC Centre here.
“The land record digitization will advance the country toward more security of the land right and it will influence the growth rate of the country,” said Executive Director of BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) Sultan Hafiz Rahman while presenting his paper on land digitization.
BIGD, BRAC University and Copenhagen Consensus Center (CCC) jointly organized the seminar.
As many as five papers on Impact of e-procurement on reducing corruption and promoting competition, Land digitization for smart governance, Justice at the village level: What is the smart policy? Strengthening UDCs for Accelerated Public Service Delivery, and RMG Palli and Factory Compliance were presented in the seminar by BIGD and CCC researchers.
Member of the Planning Commission Dr Shamsul Alam and Policy Advisor of the Access to Information (A2I) project of the Prime Minister Office (PMO) Anir Chowdhury spoke in the seminar as the Guests of Honour. Alam, however, said that the land digitization undoubtedly would bring a vast benefit for the people, but a big disaster also could be held if the security of the system would not consider.
Commissioner of the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed, Additional Secretary of the Finance Division Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, Research Fellow of Dhaka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) AKM Asaduzzaman Patwary, Policy Associate of A2I Project under PMO Ishtiaque Hussain and Academic Coordinator of South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (SAILS) Shahariar Sadat, among others, were present in the seminar.
