Feni Correspondent :
Land grabbers in the district of Feni have eyed a piece of land to grab it at any cost, showing no respect for law. The land belongs to South Char Darbesh (Ulama Bazaar) Government Primary School and Ulama Bazaar Haji Sekandar Mia High School at Char Chandiya union under Sonagazi upazila of Feni district.
Local people said, neighbours Abdul Halim and Nur Islam use the school road as if it was their personal property. Moreover, they dump their household waste in the school field during the rainy season.
Abdul Halim occupying a portion of the road constructed a shop near to the school building. The vagabonds have made the shop their gossiping centre. It creates disturbance considered threat to the school environment. Recently the school committee took initiative to construct a boundary wall on all sides and a seven feet wide road. For transparency in the work, a six-member survey team of the Upazila Land Office settled the boundary issue between the school and the others, erecting pillars.
But Halim and Noor Islam refused to accept the settlement, saying that the school committee President Abu Sufian and the school Headmaster Md. Abul Kashem had influenced the upazila land office.
According to survey team’s statement, the two schools are situated on Dag Numbers Diara 495, 496, 497 and 498. The seven feet wide road is within the jurisdiction of the primary school. As there is no boundary wall west of Dag No. 495 and 496, the owners of Dag No. 493 and 494 are trying to grab the road.
Noor Islam’s son Yusuf threatened a group of journalists when they went to visit the school premises. Receiving information, a police team moved into the school and restored discipline. A former student and general Secretary of Sonagazi Press Club accused Abdul Halim and his gang of occupying the road forefully.
Head Mistress of the Government Primary School Aklima Begum said, both the high school and the primary school have right to the ownership of the seven feet road. Besides, local residents Enamul Haque Chairman, Abu Yusuf Patowary, Abdur Rahman Tutul, Omar Faruque, Sahab Uddin, guardian-member Neamaotullah and Primary School Committee Vice-President Hafez Ahmad accused Abdul Halim and Noor Islam of creating chaos. UNO Lutfan Nahar said, the area of land has been measured upon request of the school authority.
In this contest, the school managing committee, guardians, teachers, students and members of the public have demanded the government’s intervention in saving the school land from the hands of the land grabbers.
