Due to lack of proper place for dumping garbage, mosquitoes, flies and garbage are being spread in different areas of Hossainpur Municipality of Kishoreganj. The filth of Bhagar, the stench of garbage is unbearable public life. Pedestrians and locals are being forced to carry handkerchiefs on their noses because of the stench.
According to the relevant sources, the municipality, which was established in 2006 with an area of 5:45 sq km, was upgraded to B-grade in 2016. In the last 14 years, due to the lack of waste management created by the municipal authorities, the citizens have been forced to live in the middle of some kind of garbage dump. Although the citizens informed the entire authorities about their complaint, they did not take any action.
According to municipal sources, two garbage trucks were procured by the government for dumping garbage in the 2011-12 financial years. But the two garbage trucks have been left under the open sky for a long time without being used and the sun is being wasted in the rain due to carelessness.
Visiting the municipal area on Saturday, it was seen that garbage piles have been piled up behind the vegetable mahal, paddy mahal, clothes and post office in the municipal area. At that time, businessmen Tapash Debnath, Md. Hares Mia, Kanchan Bhuiyan, Chanmia and many others expressed their displeasure and said that since there is no specific dustbin for dumping garbage, it has become a liability to get rid of the stench. Despite repeatedly telling the mayor about this, he is not listening.
Kajal Mia, Councilor of 9 No Ward of the municipality, said that earlier there were 9 cleaners and two truck drivers for dumping garbage in 9 wards of the municipality. There are now two cleaners on the ground.
In this regard, the Mayor of the Municipality Abdul Qayyum said that due to the crisis of the municipal landfill, a specific rent is not being made. However, he assured to take necessary steps in this regard.
